Michael Bell, also known as Gospel rap artist John Doe, desires an anonymous public identity to credit and glorify God for his musical gifts. Born and raised in Portsmouth, Va., Michael spent the majority of his childhood in poverty and despair. This lifestyle birthed the need to release frustration, and his original attempts to write rap music became an avenue for personal release. The influence of hip-hop culture and music helped Michael escape his harsh reality.
In 1999, at the age 16, Michael gave his life to Jesus Christ and began to use his talents for God. He and a friend formed the rap group Double Anointing. They began to travel to different churches in their local area and minister through rap. It was then that Michael adapted the name John Doe.
On July 11, 2004, Michael was ordained a minister at Portsmouth Christian Outreach Ministries, the same church where he dedicated his life to the Lord. In addition to church ministry, he has performed and preached at several concerts and youth conferences, gaining reputation as an anointed artist and minister of the Gospel.
In 2008, John Doe joined Renaissance Movement Enterprises, LLC, a Christian music production company founded by Gospel rap artist Legin. He is an artist and producer with Renaissance Movement and currently serves as the company’s vice president. His debut E.P., “V.I.C.” (Victorious in Christ), was released winter 2009.
Michael is a proud family man and resides in Portsmouth with his wife, Sheronda, and two sons, Elijah and Isaiah.
